Tonawanda News — A body pulled from the Canadian side of the Niagara River has been identified as a 23-year-old North Tonawanda man who was reported missing last week.
Police in North Tonawanda say that an autopsy conducted Monday confirmed the body’s identity as that of Douglas Vaillancourt.
New York State Park Police and other agencies launched a search of the Niagara Gorge for Vaillancourt last Wednesday after he didn’t show up for work at the U.S. Postal Service in Niagara Falls. Police say he was last seen that morning near the Hard Rock Cafe, adjacent to Niagara Falls State Park.
Police say his car was found parked in a lot at the park.
Officials say the investigation into his death is continuing.
