NT teen charged after stabbing

Tonawanda News — One North Tonawanda teen is behind bars charged with attempted murder and another spent the night in the hospital after an altercation early Saturday.

Jordan L. Wankasky, 17, 764 Nash Road, was charged with second-degree attempted murder, a B-felony, second-degree assault, a D-felony, and criminal possession of a weapon, a misdemeanor.

North Tonawanda Police Capt. Thomas Krantz said the altercation took place about 5 a.m. Saturday at a party on the 90 block of Hagen Street.

Wankasky and the victim, also a 17-year-old male, were involved in a fight. Krantz said Wankasky lost the fight and several minutes later attacked the victim with a knife, inflicting four stab wounds to the teen’s head and upper body.

Police responded to the incident and Wankasky fled on foot. He was apprehended a short time later after a foot pursuit.

The victim was transported to Erie County Medical Center where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries. He was released later Saturday, Krantz said. He has staples in his head to close the wounds.

Officers recovered the suspected weapon in the attack, a knife that’s approximately 12 inches long with a 7-inch blade.

Krantz said police interviewed numerous witnesses to the attack before determining Wankasky’s intent was to kill the victim, not simply injure him.
