Tonawanda News — The Republican incumbent North Tonawanda city attorney has received the endorsements of the Niagara County Conservative and Independence parties.
Shawn Nickerson gained the endorsements this week as he seeks to retain the seat he’s held since 2005. Prior to that he was assistant city attorney for four years. The county Republican Committee threw its weight behind Nickerson in May.
“It means a great deal to me personally to know I have demonstrated the work product, values and character throughout my career to earn these endorsements,” he said. “I am extremely honored to have earned the support of the Niagara County Independence and Conservative parties.”
Nickerson is running for a four-year term against Democrat Joshua C. Dubs, an attorney working in Buffalo. Dubs received the New York Working Families endorsement in June, support Nickerson said he had not sought. Dubs lost to Third Ward Alderman Eric Zadzilka in a 2011 bid for the city council.
Nickerson, who said he has lived in the city his entire life, noted he is looking forward to working with members of both parties to establish “advocacy for all residents in the City of North Tonawanda.”
“For the past 13 years, I have fought for the residents of the city to ensure that they are properly represented in the multitude of issues that have been brought,” he said. “I will continue to represent the city with utmost respect and professionalism and hope to do so for another four years to come.”
