Tonawanda News — The body of North Tonawanda man Frances Christman, who had been missing for almost a month, was found Sunday in a Wheatfield pond, police said.
A fisherman discovered the 35-year-old’s body at 3:15 p.m. Sunday in an area known as “Demlers” in the Town of Wheatfield. Niagara County Sheriff’s Department later recovered his body.
Christman had been missing since April 1. Although police initially said the disappearance was suspicious, a release issued Monday states that no foul play is suspected after an initial investigation.
“An autopsy was performed at the Erie County Medical Examiner’s Office and the exact cause of death is pending the results of his toxicology report,” Capt. Thomas Krantz said in the statement.
Christman was last seen in the area of Witmer Road after leaving his Cottage Street residence with his dog. During the search for Christman last month, dozens of deputies and officers camped out in the county’s Mobile Command Unit stationed on Witmer Road near River Road and searched the train tracks as well as the northwest section of the city via foot, all-terrain vehicle and helicopter. The assistance of a sheriff’s department bloodhound was also utilized.
Krantz said Christman’s dog has not been found.
