TEA TIME

Auxiliary tea opens DeGraff's 100th year

Tonawanda News — DeGraff Memorial Hospital Auxiliary will host the first 100-year-themed celebration for the hospital with its annual Membership Tea from 2 to 4 p.m. Jan. 23 in the hospital cafe.

“Although the Auxiliary membership only spans 68 of those years, it is proud to keep with the 100 year tradition of a high tea theme,” said Phyllis Genter, who along with Diane Krause is cochair of the event.

The afternoon will feature displays of memorabilia from the hospital archives as well as the Historical Society of the Tonawandas.

Tea sandwiches and fine desserts made by members of the auxiliary board and music will also be highlights along with special table centerpieces have been designed by Mary Ellen Holler to add to the celebration.

The fee for membership is $10 which goes in full toward scholarships for local college students pursuing a health care career and may be paid at the door.

“Renewing and new members are encouraged to attend for a delightful afternoon of reminiscing,” Gentner said.

Committee members include Pat Dean, Debbie Hoffert, Shirley Molnar, Mary Beth Kupiec, Marcia Neri, Cathy Feind, Joni Parkhill, Michele Day and Nancy Ross.

The auxiliary, originally started by the hospital physicians’ wives for the purpose of lending financial support and volunteer assistance, now welcomes both men and women to join their ranks.

The funds generated through their efforts are used for new equipment and updates for DeGraff.

Tickets for the Mega Raffle which is ongoing throughout the year will be given out. The prize drawing wil be Nov. 14, the actual date the hospital opened.
