NT man sentenced for selling drugs

Tonawanda News — U.S. District Judge Richard Arcara has sentenced a North Tonawanda man to 37 months in prison for selling cocaine and setting a car on fire, U.S. Attorney William Hochul announced Wednesday.

William Hutchins, 37, was convicted of conspiracy to possess drugs with an intent to distribute, distributing 500 grams or more of cocaine and maliciously destroying a vehicle by means of a fire.

Between January and July 2009, Hutchins conspired with others to sell cocaine to customers in Niagara and Erie counties, Assistant U.S. Attorney Timothy C. Lynch, who handled the case, said. He sold the drug at a restaurant on Niagara Falls Boulevard in Niagara Falls, among other places.

The defendant also poured gasoline on a 1998 Mazda and ignited the vehicle on May 23, 2008. The car, which was being used by another person for drug trafficking, was damaged.

The investigation was handled by Special Agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, led by Special Agent in Charge Brian P. Boetig, the Niagara County Drug Task Force, under the direction of Sheriff James Votour, the Niagara Falls Police Department, led by Chief John Chella and the Amherst Police Department, under the direction of Chief John Askey.
