Body of missing NT man found in gorge

Tonawanda News — The body of a missing North Tonawanda man was discovered Saturday in the Niagara Gorge, police said.

North Tonawanda Police Chief William Hall said at approximately 5 p.m. Saturday Canadian authorities pulled the body of Douglas Vaillancourt, 23, from the river. His identity was confirmed Monday.

Vaillancourt was reported missing Wednesday when he did not show up for his part-time job with the U.S. Postal Service in Niagara Falls. His vehicle was later discovered by police in a parking lot at Niagara Falls State Park. A two-day search by ground and air failed to locate him.

Police said an autopsy will be performed, while the investigation continues.
