STATEN ISLAND —
Richard Dennis "Rick" Jaszczak of Staten Island, NY, formerly of North Tonawanda, entered into eternal life, suddenly on Friday, January 3, 2014, at the age of 63. Born in North Tonawanda, Rick graduated from North Tonawanda High School, Class of 1968. He went on to Union College, Schenectady, NY and graduated in 1973 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering with Honors and a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. In 1973, Rick was admitted to Sigma Xi (honorary fraternity for scientific research). He worked for several companies throughout his career, General Electric - Heat Pump Division, SCS - Field Services, Union Carbide - Linde Division, Getty Synthetic Fuels and most recently DTE/Biomass of Staten Island, NY, where he was a consultant and project engineer. Rick was president of NSI, National Systems, Inc. of Las Vegas, NV; was a registered professional engineer in New York, New Jersey and California and was a licensed general contractor in Florida, Tennessee and Nevada.
Rick was a scholar athlete in high school and college, obtaining scholarships for both track and football. He held a state record for the 440 for many years and was inducted into the North Tonawanda Athletic Hall of Fame for his accomplishments in track.
He loved to work with his hands and tools. His spare time was spent as a general contractor, building and remodeling custom homes. Rick's connection to family was very important to him. He loved spending time with his nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. Although his career kept him very busy, he always made time for family. Rick loved to entertain the family, doing magic tricks, Elvis skits and of course, our ever beloved Santa Claus.
Beloved son of Irene (nee Siezega) and the late Zygmund Jaszczak; dearest brother of Gary (Mary Margaret) Jaszczak, Mary Ellen (Michael) McCabe and Beverly (James) DiPalma, all of North Tonawanda; dear uncle of Eric, Nicole, Olivia, Andrea, Sam and Max. Also survived by an aunt, many loving cousins and friends.
No prior visitation. Family and friends are asked to gather at Our Lady of Czestochowa Church for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated on SATURDAY, January 11th at 9:30 AM. Flowers graciously declined. Arrangements by the SABER FUNERAL HOME (692-0271).
