NORTH TONAWANDA —
Louis John Pane, 92, of North Tonawanda, died peacefully on Thursday, December 20, 2012.
He was the son of the late Joseph and Carmella (Sacco) Pane. Louis was a lifelong resident of North Tonawanda leaving only between 1942-1947 to serve in the Coast Guard, where he was ranked as Yeoman First Class. On October 9, 1948, Louis married Caroline Merletti of North Tonawanda. Louis was the owner and operator of Pane Heating and Cooling for 32 years. Upon retiring, he briefly worked as the Clerk of the Works for Tonawanda and North Tonawanda school districts where he oversaw renovations to the high schools.
Louis had been active in the community. He was a volunteer fireman for the Live Hose Fire Company since 1947, a member of the Knights of Columbus for over 50 years reaching the distinction of 4th degree, and an active member of the Renaissance Club since 1973. Louis had many hobbies and interests which included fishing, photography, wood working, golf, gardening, attracting and feeding the birds in his yard, doing his puzzles in the daily newspaper. He was also an avid fan of the Buffalo Bills. Through his business Louis and Carol were able to travel to several destinations around the world, such as Venezuela, Spain, Italy, England, Morocco, Germany and Austria.
In addition to his parents, Louis was predeceased by his twin brother, Samuel, who died in France during World War II; brothers, William, Anthony, Frank, Carmen, Bernard, Dominic and John Pane; and sisters, Angela Nardello, Mary Gagliardi and Evelyn (Anna) Paul.
Louis is survived by his wife of 64 years, Caroline (Merletti) Pane of North Tonawanda; his children, Diana Pane (Mike Antrim) of Albany, NY; Joseph (Karen) Pane of Medina, NY, and Pamela (Rick) Kandare of Warren, PA. He is also survived by grandsons, Joseph Cody Kandare of Warren, PA; John-Louis, Keith and Anthony Pane of Medina, NY. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the WATTENGEL Funeral Home, 307 Oliver St., North Tonawanda. Mass of Christian Burial Friday at 10 AM from St. Jude the Apostle Parish, 800 Niagara Falls Blvd. Interment with military honors will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Tonawanda. Those wishing may make contributions to American Heart Association or American Cancer Society.
