William Albert Martin, age 81, of North Tonawanda, died peacefully while sleeping on December 25, 2012. William was born and raised in Buffalo, NY, on February 2, 1931 and began working at a young age after his father died in 1943. He graduated from Seneca Vocational High School in 1948. He then worked as a machinist until he joined the U.S. Army in 1956. He married Marcia in December of 1956 and took his new wife to Germany while serving his country. William began attending college at Tri State College in Angola, Indiana in 1959 and, with the assistance of his loving wife, graduated in 1962 with a major in Mechanical Engineering. During this time, a second child, Pamela, was born in 1960. The family settled in the Town of Tonawanda and moved to North Tonawanda in 1962, where they resided for over 50 years. In 1963, their third child, Daniel, affectionately known as D.J., was born. William began working as an engineer at Harrison Radiator in Lockport in 1962. He retired in 1991. In 1982, he received a patent relating to the method and apparatus for assembling heat exchangers.
William was a devoted husband and father who enjoyed cars of all types, especially antiques. Until shortly before his death, he owned a 1931 Chevy and 1970 Opel GT. He was a dedicated Buffalo sports fan and was a Bills season ticket holder for 20 years. He was an avid bowler, coached his sons' Little League baseball teams, and enjoyed playing euchre with his dear friends at the Renaissance Club in North Tonawanda. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife and they spent several winters in Florida.
