WEST CHESTER, PA — Aleen C. Sciandra, 82, of Downingtown, PA, passed away on Monday, January 21, 2013, at Life Care Hospital in West Chester, PA. She was the beloved wife of James J. Sciandra, with whom she shared 62 years of marriage.

Born in Buffalo, NY, she was the daughter of the late Joseph P. and Lillian (nee Krob) Schuh. She was employed as a special needs student assistant in the Downingtown School District for ten years, retiring in 1997.

Aleen was a member of Central Presbyterian Church in Downingtown and a member of Martha's Circle at the church. She enjoyed playing cards, especially pinochle. She was an avid quilter and made multiple quilts. Aleen completed a quilting course at Paducah Community College in Kentucky. She was also an excellent seamstress. She loved the beach and enjoyed going to Rehoboth and watching her family build sand castles. She was an excellent cook and was known for "Nana's Chicky Soup". Aleen enjoyed spending time with friends and family, was a great listener and family was the most important thing to her.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Darlene F. (Keith J.) Starr of Southampton, PA, Joseph J. (Carl Wasylyszyn) of Coatesville, PA, and John J. of Honey Brook, PA. She is also survived by her sister, Jean Schnitzer of Centereach, NY; daughter-in-law, Maureen Sciandra, Coatesville, PA; grandchildren, Jason J. (Marlo), Matthew J., Megan E. Starr, Corianne, Jamielynn and Nichole Sciandra; and great-grandchildren, Luke and Ethan Starr. Aleen was predeceased by her beloved son, James J. Sciandra, Jr.

Family will be present on Tuesday from 9:30 AM-11 AM at the GRECO FUNERAL HOME, 2909 Elmwood Avenue, Kenmore (near Sheridan Drive), where prayers will be offered at 11 AM. Interment will be on Tuesday in Elmlawn Cemetery in Buffalo, NY. In lieu of flowers,      memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
