Cesaria Martinez



Cesaria Martinez (nee Colon) "Saro", age 96, of North Tonawanda, entered into eternal life peacefully on Christmas Eve 2013 at Northgate Nursing Home. Saro was a member of the former Ascension R.C. Church and presently, St. Jude the Apostle Parish. Born in Orocovis, Puerto Rico in 1917, she moved to the Tonawandas in 1955. She loved to sing, play dominoes, crochet, cook and spending time with her family. Saro hosted Seminary Priests from other countries who were studying at Christ the King Seminary. She was a member of the Women's Cursillos #5.
Daughter of the late Antonio and Tomasa Morales-Colon and step-daughter of the late Andres Maldonado. Wife of the late Ramon Martinez. Mother of the late Carmen Julia Rivera and Jose Martinez. Sister of the late Eleuterio, Victor, Felicita, Carmen and Cecilia. Beloved mother of Luz Maria (the late Phillip) Garcia, Virginia (Marcelo) Rosado, Carmen Delia (the late Isaias) Gonzalez, Tomasita Martinez  (George McGann), Joanna Olivencia, Theresa (Richard) Reaser, Elena (Kevin) McGinnis and Hector (the late Joy) Haggerty. Mother-in-law of Miguel Rivera.  Beloved sister of Jorge (Eva) and Nelida Maldonado and Lucy (Salome) Rivera. Proud grandmother of 41 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends received by the family on Sunday (12/29) from 2-8 PM at the Brunner Funeral Home (692-3841), 156 Robinson St., North Tonawanda. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday morning at 10:00 AM at St. Jude the Apostle Church. (Please assemble at the church.) Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. The family requests that memorials be made to Niagara Hospice, Inc. or St. Jude Building Fund.
