WATERVILLE, ME —
Doris Mae (nee Nailie) Gosch Britt, age 87, of Waterville, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 16, 2012, at Mount St. Joseph's in Waterville.
Doris was a graduate of North Tonawanda Senior High School in North Tonawanda, NY, where she was the drum majorette of the high school band. She graduated as a registered nurse from Mount St. Mary's School of Nursing affiliated with Niagara University in 1946. While residing in North Tonawanda, she was a member of Friedens United Church of Christ.
Doris was a registered nurse on the maternity ward at DeGraff Memorial Hospital in North Tonawanda until her retirement in 1969, when she moved to Camden, ME. Doris, along with her husband, Dr. Robert C. Britt, delivered thousands of babies at DeGraff. While in Camden, Doris was an office nurse and secretary for her husband at Camden Community Hospital. She was a volunteer teacher for the American Red Cross prenatal and postnatal care program, and was also a consultant nurse for the Fairwinds Boarding Home in Warren. After moving to Waterville, she was an active volunteer at the Seton Unit of MaineGeneral and a member of the First Congregational Church where she was involved in the Women's Fellowship Group.
Doris loved to spend time with her many grandchildren and was always available to give love and care to them. Doris loved to travel and did so across the country with her husband, Rob, and in later years with her eldest daughter, Kathleen. Doris was a wonderful cook and loved to entertain family and friends.
Doris was the daughter of the late Charles A., Sr. and Geneva Nailie. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Robert C. Britt; and brother, Charles A. Nailie, Jr.; sister, Jeanne A. Wild; and granddaughter, Katlyn Elise Gosch.
She is survived by two sons, Jeffrey Gosch and Robert (Janet) Gosch; and two daughters, Kathleen (Daniel) Camann and Colleen Gregory (Sean Mulligan). She is also survived by three step-daughters, Nancy (Edward) Kelleher, Elizabeth Britt, Sarah DeGuire and the late Jennifer LeQuire; a step-son, William (Jane) Britt; and eighteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Doris lived by the following scripture: "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me," Philippians, 4:13.
The family wishes to thank the loving, caring staff at Mount St. Joseph's, where Doris had resided for the past four and a half years, for their compassionate care.
