Genevieve Schaffer


Genevieve (nee Motyl) Schaffer, age 87, of North Tonawanda, died on Thursday, January 31, 2013, at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Niagara Falls, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary (nee Zewollie) Motyl and had been a resident of North Tonawanda for the greater part of her life. A member of Our Lady of Czestochowa R.C. Church, Mrs. Schaffer had been employed at New York Telephone in North Tonawanda before retiring. She was the wife of the late Gerald R. Schaffer, who died in 2007.
She is survived by her daughter, Stephanie E. Martin; her son, William R. Dixon; three grandchildren, Matthew A. Thompson, William J. Dixon and Sherry L. Dixon; and her "adopted granddaughter", Jill Craig. Also surviving are four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 2-5 PM on Sunday only at the Hamp Funeral Home, Inc., 37 Adam Street at Seymour, Tonawanda. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 AM on Monday at Our Lady of Czestochowa R.C. Church on Oliver and Center Streets in North Tonawanda. Friends invited. Interment will be cared for privately at Holy Trinity Cemetery in Lewiston. If desired, memorials to a charity of your choice are preferred by the family.
