Cortland B. Whitcomb

NORTH TONAWANDA — Cortland B. Whitcomb of North Tonawanda, age 86, passed away February 7, 2014, following a brief illness.

Born in Buffalo, August 23, 1927, son of the late Kensett and Reta Whitcomb.

Cortland served in the US Navy as a Seaman First Class. He spent his career as a service         technician, mainly furnace repairs. He worked with several companies and retired from Noco.

Cortland was a Lifetime Member of Live Hose #4 and held several offices over the years. He also served on the Canal Fest committee for many years. He was a member of the Benevolent   Fireman's Association.

Mr. Whitcomb loved gardening and bowling, and was a big Buffalo Bills fan. According to his family, Cortland was best known for his wonderful sense of humor.

Beloved husband of 64 years to Helen (nee Gustafson) Whitcomb; devoted father of Marlene (Michael) Janda, Gary Whitcomb, Linda (late Philip) Swartz and Susan (Edward) Falcone;     brother of late Kensett (Mildred) Whitcomb; loving grandfather of seven, great-grandfather of seven; also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call Thursday 4 to 8 PM at the WATTENGEL Funeral Home (NEW LOCATION) 533 Meadow Drive, North Tonawanda, where funeral services will be held Friday at 10:00 AM. Live Hose #4 will conduct services at the funeral home Thursday evening at 7 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials to North Tonawanda Food Pantry.
