Dorothy Gardiner

TONAWANDA —

Dorothy (nee Stehlin) Gardiner, age 88, of Tonawanda, died on Monday, February 10, 2014 at Niagara Lutheran Home, after a long illness. Born in Buffalo, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Sarah (nee Steinhart) Stehlin and had been a resident of Tonawanda for the greater part of her life. Dorothy was employed at the Newman Center at Buffalo State College where she attended Mass and was also an active member at St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Tonawanda. She was always concerned about social justice and helping the disadvantaged with her involvement at the Newman Center. She was the wife of the late Robert H. Gardiner, who died in 1997.
She is survived by three daughters, Sarah "Sally" (Duke) Pliss, Beth (Jim Stadelmaier) Gardiner and Mary Ellen (Dick) Myers; and a son, Bob (Marcia) Gardiner, Jr. Also surviving are ten grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM on Thursday only at the Hamp Funeral Home, Inc., 37 Adam Street at Seymour, Tonawanda. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Friday at St. Francis Chapel, 71 Adam Street, Tonawanda. Friends invited. If desired, memorials to the Niagara Lutheran Home in Buffalo are preferred.
