John W. Haley

BUFFALO — John W. Haley, of North Tonawanda, age 88, passed away August 17, 2013 in the VA Medical Center in Buffalo, following a brief illness.

Mr. Haley was born July 15, 1925 in Grampian, PA, son of the late Joseph and Altress Haley.

John attended local schools in PA. He was a highly decorated WWII Navy veteran, receiving many metals, including the Purple Heart.

Mr. Haley was a member of the American Legion, as well as the Purple Heart Association. He retired from WSF Fabrications in Tonawanda. John was an avid photographer. He loved fishing, golfing, gardening and bowling. John loved to tell stories and had the best sense of humor. He will be remembered most for his total love and devotion to his family.

Beloved husband of 56 years to Ruth (nee DuFour) Haley; loving father of Anita R. (Thomas) Plunkett; proud grandfather of Aryn E. (Robert) Maynard and the late Melissa A. Plunkett; devoted brother of Joseph D., Harry N. and the late Robert Haley.

Friends may call Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the WATTENGEL Funeral Home, 307 Oliver St., North Tonawanda, where funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 AM, the Rev. Greg Crispell will officiate. Interment with military honors in Acacia Park Cemetery. If desired, memorials may be made to Buffalo VA Medical Center.
