John L. Rex, age 84, of Tonawanda, died Friday, August 23, 2013, at Highpointe Nursing Home, after a long illness. Born in Gallitzin, PA, he was the son of the late Leo and Thelma (nee Spade) Rex and was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War. In 1952, he married his high school sweetheart, Janet Buck, and they moved from Gallitzin to Tonawanda, where John worked at Spaulding Fibre until his retirement. John was a skilled carpenter and a loving husband and father. He was the brother of the late Eleanor Rex and Dorothy (William) Hammond.
He is survived by his wife, Janet (nee Buck) Rex; his daughter, Patricia (Bill) Bryans; three sons, James (Susan) Rex, Michael (Pamela) Rex and R. Scott (Cathy) Rex; and three grandchildren, Joseph (Molly) Rex, Carolyn (Peter) Priebe and Patrick (Amanda Herrick) Smith, Jr. Also surviving are a great-granddaughter, Lily Rex, and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 4-8 PM on Monday only at the HAMP FUNERAL HOME, Inc., 37 Adam Street at Seymour, Tonawanda. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM Tuesday at St. Timothy R.C. Church, 565 East Park at Ensminger Road, Town of Tonawanda. Friends invited. Interment at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
