NORTH TONAWANDA —
James Allan McGinnis, passed away on April 22, 2014 in Brooksville, FL, at the age of 83. Mr. McGinnis was born in Niagara Falls, Ontario, son of the late James and Florence McGinnis.
He graduated from Bishop Duffy High School in Niagara Falls. Mr. McGinnis served in the United States Navy from 1950 to 1953. He retired from the E.I. Dupont Company as maintenance supervisor after many years of service. Mr. McGinnis served as Mayor of the City of North Tonawanda from 1993 until 1997. He also has served as Chairman of the Niagara County Civil Service Commission, Chairman of the Niagara County Democratic Committee, member of the Niagara County Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission. Mr. McGinnis was a member of the American Legion Sikora Post #1322, a member of the Sweeney Hose Volunteer Fire Company and a Commander of the Veterans Association at Cloverleaf in Florida.
Husband of Sarah (nee Dury) McGinnis and the late Barbara Anne (nee Noakes) McGinnis; father of James (Enid), Maureen (Vincent) Sidoni, Kevin (Elena), Barbara (Joe) Gotta, Brenda (Linda) Strauch-McGinnis, twins, Patrick (Barbara) and Michael (Holly) McGinnis, Mary Beth Rusin, Victoria Seger and Frederick Seger; brother of the late David, Eileen, Helen, Kathleen, Patricia and Dorothy. Also survived by twenty-four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on Sunday from 2-8 PM at the WATTENGEL Funeral Home (NEW LOCATION) 533 Meadow Drive, North Tonawanda. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday at 10:00 AM from St. Jude the Apostle Parish, 800 Niagara Falls Blvd., North Tonawanda. (Please assemble at church.) Private Interment Mt. Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Niagara Catholic High School, 520-66th St., Niagara Falls, NY 14304 or Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY 14094.
