John C. Stopka, 77, of North Tonawanda passed away Saturday, February 15, 2014, under the care of hospice at Delaware Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Buffalo, after a long battle with cancer.
He was born August 25, 1936 in Ebensberg, PA and resided most of his life in North Tonawanda. He was employed at Durez Plastics for 40 years in North Tonawanda. John was an avid card player and loved working on puzzles, camping and visiting with family and friends on the "Veranda."
He was predeceased by his parents, John Stopka and Sophie (nee Kokoski) and Bill Povecke. John is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Sandra M. (nee Lukasik) Stopka; children, Kathryn L. (Dennis Murszewski, companion) Steele, John C. Stopka, Tammy L. (Bill) Kelley and Karen L. Brundage; grandchildren, Megan (nee Steele) (Harold) Kropp, Luke, Ryan, Samantha Brundage and John II and Jason Stopka; great-grandchildren, Maiya, Nolan, Bradley and Caylee; sisters, Toni (nee Stopka) (Bob) Boyd, Yvonne (nee Povecke) (Ron) Syposs and Pam (nee Povecke) (Ken) Moderacki, and also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to call Friday, February 21, 2014, from 5-8 PM at Colucci Funeral Home, 652 Oliver Street, North Tonawanda (692-4917). A memorial celebration of life service will be held Saturday, February 22, 2014, at 11:00 AM at the funeral home.
