Lawrence "Larry" Bowman

TONAWANDAS — Lawrence "Larry" Bowman, age 87, of the Tonawandas, Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at his  residence, under the care of Hospice. A lifelong resident of the Tonawandas, he was a US Navy veteran serving with the Seabees during World War II. Larry was a long-time employee of the Maryvale School System beginning as a teacher and retiring as Assistant Superintendent of Schools. Following his retirement, he relocated to Southern California where he was employed by Rockwell International. He was a member of Tonawandas Post 264 American Legion and Madonna Council 2535 Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Shirley (nee Czysz) Bowman; three children, William Bowman of Lawtons, NY, Julie Walters of the Town of Niagara, and Mary-Jean Bowman and husband, Mark Woodard of North Tonawanda; eight grandchildren, Nicholas, Gillian (David), William (Amy), Robert (Jennifer), Meghan, Christopher, Zachary and Shay; four great-grandchildren and his loyal companions, Scamper and Hobo. He was the son of the late Lawrence and Barbara (nee Herrmann) Bowman and brother of the late Elizabeth Kantor, Barbara McCormick, Ann Cramer and William Bowman. Also survived by many nieces and nephews, especially Colleene.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday from 4-8 PM at John O. Roth Funeral Home, Inc., 25 William St. (between Morgan & Broad Sts.), in Tonawanda. A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 9:30 AM in St. Francis of Assisi Chapel, 71 Adam St., in Tonawanda. Friends invited. A private interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Flowers gratefully declined. Memorial contributions may be made to the Erie County SPCA or to Niagara Hospice in Lockport.
