James S. McDonald

NORTH TONAWANDA — James S. McDonald, age 80, of the City of Tonawanda, Wednesday, April 23, 2014, at          DeGraff Memorial Hospital. A lifelong resident of Tonawanda, he was the son of the late Michael and Leona (nee Rudgers) McDonald. James attended Tonawanda High School and was a retired mail carrier for the City of Tonawanda Post Office. He was a 59-year member and Past President of National Hose Company #1, former Treasurer of Tonawanda Exempt Volunteer Firemen's Assn., and Secretary of Tonawanda Firemen's Benevolent Assn.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marlene J. (nee Anderson) McDonald; two children, Shelly (Joseph) Stieger of Kenmore and Shawn (Chrislyn) McDonald of Tonawanda; four grandchildren, Matthew (Emily) Stieger, Patrick (April Chatt) McDonald, Wendy (Kyle) Worstell and Erin McDonald; five great-grandchildren, Christian, Reagan, Levi, Liam and Titus and his brother, Rory (Susan John) McDonald of Wolfeboro, NH. Also survived by nieces and nephews.

Friends may call Friday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at John O. Roth Funeral Home, Inc., 25 William St. (between Morgan & Broad Sts.), in Tonawanda. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 11 AM at National Hose Company #1, 44 William St., in Tonawanda. Friends invited. The Rev. Joseph Stieger and the Rev. Matthew Stieger will officiate. Burial will be in Elmlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Disease Assn., or to Operation Small Change Fund, c/o Firemen's Home, 125 Harry Howard Ave., Hudson, NY 12534.
