George Drmacich, age 93, of Tonawanda, died Friday, October 29, 2010 at Wedgewood Health Care in Amherst, after a long illness. Born in Rankin, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Elizabeth (nee Cigorin) and George Drmacich, Sr. and had been a lifelong resident of the Tonawandas. He was an Army Veteran of WWII and was employed at Spaulding Fibre before retiring. A member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Mr. Drmacich was a member of Union Hook & Ladder Company for more than 60 years. He was a member of the Tonawanda High School Football Teams from 1934-1936, a member of the Eldredge Club Semi-pro football teams in the 1940's as a 160 pound tackle, and was a fast-pitch softball pitcher for many years with teams from Spaulding Fibre and Union Hook & Ladder Company. He was the husband of the late Mary (nee Krueger) Drmacich, who died March 3, 2005.
He is survived by his two sons, George (Patricia) Drmacich, Jr. and Daniel (Barbara Kruze) Drmacich; two step-sons, Ron and Jack Hopkins; and six grandchildren, Michael (Janine) Drmacich of Amherst, NY, Mary Beth (Ollo) Romo of Geneva, Switzerland, William (Mary) Drmacich of Alpharetta, GA, Melissa (Mike) Raymer of Peachtree City, GA, Jeanette (Istvan) Drmacich-Hajdu of New York City, NY, and Jessica Drmacich of Great Barrington, MA; also surviving are 13 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 6-9 PM on Tuesday at the Hamp Funeral Home, Inc., 37 Adam Street at Seymour, Tonawanda, where funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM on Wednesday. Friends invited. Interment at Acacia Park Cemetery. If desired, memorials to organization are preferred by the family.
