Helen Starr


Helen (nee Kennis) Starr, age 89, of the City of Tonawanda, died on Monday, July 7, 2014, at DeGraff Skilled Nursing Facility, where she had been a resident for the past four years. Born in Rosemantown, PA to the late Wassil "Charlie" and Anna (Evano) Kennis, she had been a resident of the City of Tonawanda for the greater part of her life. Helen was the wife of Robert E. Starr, who died in February of 2012; and sister of the late Julia Dreier, Sophie Clark, John Kennis, and Wassil "Ticky" Kennis. She had been employed as a waitress for several Fine Dining restaurants including Park Lane and Oliver's, and later worked for Tops International in Amherst. Helen was a member of Tonawanda United Methodist Church in the City of Tonawanda.
She is survived by her son Robert E. Starr II of the City of Tonawanda; her sister, Anne (late Andrew) Meholick of North Tonawanda; and several nieces and nephews.
Family will be present on Friday from 2-4 PM and 6-9 PM at JOHN O. ROTH FUNERAL HOME, INC., 25 William St. (Between Morgan & Broad Sts.) City of Tonawanda. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, July 12th at 11 AM at Tonawanda United Methodist Church, 221 Morgan St., Tonawanda. Friends invited. Rev. Dorothea Schweitzer will officiate. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the City of Tonawanda Youth Board, 200 Niagara St., Tonawanda, NY 14150 or to Tonawanda United Methodist Church.
