Doris A. Stewart

CLARENCE — Doris A. Stewart, 95, of Tonawanda, NY, died peacefully on March 11, 2013, at Brothers of Mercy Nursing Facility in Clarence, NY. She was born in Buffalo, NY on February 25, 1918, a daughter of the late G. Ernest and I. Mai Storms Oremus. She was predeceased by her husband, Walter, who died in 1987; and her daughter, Maureen Stewart, who died in 2012.

"Dorie" grew up in Riverside and spent her adult life as a homemaker. She played piano and organ, and was also very skilled at china painting.  She was very active in organizing World War II Army reunions with her husband, an annual event she enjoyed for many decades, even after Walter's death. She treasured her family's cottage in the Finger Lakes and was well-known locally for giving piano lessons to many children over the years. Dorie was a member of the First United Methodist Church of North Tonawanda.

She is survived by her sister, Bernice Sepp of the Town of Tonawanda; brother-in-law, Earl Holmes of Sauquoit, NY and sister-in-law, Martha Sullivan of Rochester, NY. Dorie is also lovingly remembered by many nieces, great-nieces, nephews and great-nephews.

Burial was at Elmlawn Cemetery in the Town of Tonawanda, NY. A memorial service was held for family and friends at the First United Methodist Church.
