Bert P. McDonald, of Lewiston, NY, passed away on Monday, October 1, 2012, in Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence.
He was born in Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, on November 13, 1916, the son of the late Victor and Annie (Pitts) McDonald.
Mr. McDonald came to the United States in 1935 and lived in Montauk for seven years before moving to Niagara Falls, NY in 1942. He was a carpenter with Local 322, now Local 280, for 70 years, where he was the financial secretary, and had worked at the Lake Ontario Plant or the T.N.T., also for construction locals out of state, and as a foreman on the Power Project.
Mr. McDonald had lived in Niagara Falls before moving to a home in Ransomville that he had remodeled in 1972.
He was the husband of the late Margaret N. (McGuire) McDonald, who died in 1964, and the late Mary Jane (Ashton) McDonald, who died in 1992.
Mr. McDonald was the father of Edward (Karen) McDonald of North Tonawanda, Linda Allen and Elaine (Anthony) Grenzy, both of Niagara Falls, NY; step-father of Diane (Ronald) Glose, Evelyn (Thomas) Weld, Robert (Janet) Cullinan, Michael Lux and Joanne (Matt) Cole; his special friend, Gloria Shaw. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was the step-father of the late Thomas Cullinan; brother of the late Liola Shannon, Clem, Albert, Arthur, Joseph McDonald, Anne Fougere and Helen Boudreau.
The family will be present on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 5893 Hoover Road, SANBORN, NY, where funeral services will be held on Thursday at 9:15 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM, at Immaculate Conception Church, 4671 Townline Road, Ransomville, NY, with the Rev. Joseph P. Badding officiating. Memorials may be made to his name to Opportunities Unlimited of Niagara, 2510 Niagara Falls Blvd., Niagara Falls, NY 14304.
