Stanley F. Wegrzyn

TONAWANDA — Stanley F. Wegrzyn, 78, of Tonawanda, NY, native of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away Tuesday, September 24, 2013, after a short illness. Stanley was a graduate of Niagara University and the University of Buffalo, a retired Buffalo School teacher and dedicated volunteer. He was a veteran of the US Army, an active member of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Tonawanda, and taught Religious Education for many years before donating his time in the outreach program with his beloved Westies, Bailey and Brandi. He worked at Westinghouse before teaching at South Park High School, where he founded the DECA Club. Dedicated volunteer who coached many little league teams for Tonawanda baseball and football from the 60s thru the 70s. Umpired baseball and softball for over 25 years; retired HS softball umpire with the NFOA. A member of the Niagara Frontier Relic               Association, an avid trout fisherman and sometimes a hunter. Most enjoyed being a high school sports and theater supporter, going to all his grandchildren's sporting events, theater productions or activity that they were involved in.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Dorothy (Sikora) Wegrzyn; father of  Michael (Sue), Kathy Vink (Robert) and Tim (Laurie); grandchildren, Jessica, Keith, Cassie, Kristin, Danielle, Jadon, Madison, Hadley and Rylee; his brother, Robert (Mary) Wegrzyn of Niagara Falls, NY and sister, Jean (Harvey Lanier) Bartholomew of NC. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Judy Janik.

Friends may call Friday, September 27th, from 2-7 PM at ZAJAC FUNERAL HOME INC., 319- 24th St., cor. Welch Ave., Niagara Falls, NY, where funeral services with military honors will take place at 7:00PM, with Rev. Jacek Mazur officiating. Burial at the convenience of the family will take place at St. Francis of Assisi Chapel Columbarium. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Boys & Girls Club of the Tonawandas Inc., 325 Franklin St., Tonawanda, NY 14150.
