CITY OF TONAWANDA —
George Papai, age 83, of the City of Tonawanda, Tuesday, October 30, 2012, at his residence, under the care of Hospice. Born in Hungary, he had been a resident of Tonawanda for the past 54 years and was the father of the late Michael G. Papai. George had been employed by Dunlop Tire and Rubber for 44 years, retiring in 1991. He was an avid bowler in the Tonawanda area for more than 30 years. He was also a walleye fisherman and billiard pool player. In 1999 and 2000, he was a 9-Ball champion of the New York State Senior Games.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Joy Marie (nee Pomeroy) Papai; his children, Dana Lynn Papai of Kenmore; and Gregory (Rhona) Papai of Newfane; and two grandsons.
The family will receive friends and relatives Wednesday (Nov. 7th) from 2-4 & 6-7:30 PM at John O. Roth Funeral Home, Inc., 25 William St. (between Morgan & Broad Sts.), in Tonawanda, where a memorial service will be held at 7:30 Wednesday evening following the visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the SPCA of Erie County.
