SOUND OFF: Published August 20

The Tonawanda News

I have had a lawn ornament stolen from the corner of Wurlitzer and Ball. It was a bird bath and it had a golf bag attached to it and it was very heavy. I would like it returned.

Please contact our members of Congress urging them to return to session immediately to allow debate on the drilling of oil in areas that are now being prohibited from drilling, and to pass a law allowing drilling in these areas. The numbers are: Sen. Clinton, 716-854-9725; Sen. Schumer, 716-846-4111; Rep. Reynolds, 716-634-2324; Rep. Higgins, 716-852-3501; Rep. Slaughter, 716-282-1274. These are all district offices in either Buffalo or Niagara Falls.

Something smells fishy along the waterfront, period. The sudden exit of the concert series at Gateway does not meet the text of credulity. Is the North Tonawanda police department at odds with Mayor Soos, and this is a way to discredit him? Or are they at the state Liquor Authority in the pocket of Kathy Paradowski, who has taken her series to Lockport and would do anything to hurt North Tonawanda?

Every summer for 10 years, the North Tonawanda library has an adult reading program. Many businesses and private people donate prizes for the free Chinese auction for the readers to win. I have yet to meet anyone who has won a prize. I asked for a list of winners and I was told that no list is posted because the winner does not want her name published. That’s not a very good reason. I wish they would post a list of the winners.

This is to the person who feels that to qualify for the STAR program you have to have somebody in the service. It has nothing to do with being in the service, it has to do with how much money you make or don’t make. Why don’t you call your town and you can find out a little more about it.

I wish to address the high cost of oil. The Democrats insist that it would be futile to drill for oil in pockets where we know oil exists in the United States. They cite times of 10-30 years for production. They are selling the country short. During World War II, all of our companies shut down their product production, and switched to producing war implements. Our local Wurlitzer music company released all of their jukebox contracts and began producing various products for the war. We have a glut of intelligent engineers and geologists who know the modern unobtrusive methods of drilling, and who could oversee the construction of oil processing plants in a few years. Do not let Pelosi and her gang of nay-sayers dissuade you. Insist that the Congress allow drilling in all areas that we know contain oil.

Me thinks me smells a rat or skunk. I do not condone underage drinking of alcohol, nor do I condone over-drinking in the legal age group. However, I think this was a setup orchestrated by George Maziarz to try to embarrass Mayor Soos and his committee, and push for the Lockport concerts. When Mrs. Godzilla ran the concerts, how many stings were held? I think the NT cops, when they want to, look the other way, with their hands out. Shame on all of you. How many underage people drink at Canal Fest? What a bunch of clowns.
