SOUND OFF: Published September 5

The Tonawanda News

Concerning that amateur wanna-be drummer. If someone came up and knocked on your door for 30 minutes straight, you could call the police. This guy comes through windows for 30 minutes straight, and there’s no stopping it. He’s not good, he’s not creative or inventive. He’s a hack wanna-be. He’s a nuisance and he’s aggravating.

•••

About the Olympics and the Tonawanda News listings. Some of the major events took place at 5 a.m. We don’t get our paper until 4 in the afternoon, when the children come out of school. Therefore, we don’t see the events that are on in the morning. They should be listed the day before, so that anyone who wants to watch them will know that they are on, or possibly tape it, had they known it was on.

•••

First baseball, then the Olympics and football. Could you please tell me why these sports are not on the sports channels and they are on our regular local channels? Isn’t that what the sports channels are supposed to be for? Sports? Why do they crowd them on? You can’t watch anything but sports. I think they should be where they belong, that’s what the sports channels were originated for.

•••

No concert ’09. The ’09 canal Fest: No beer tents, no baby contests. Zero attendance only. Family-oriented arts and crafts only, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dinner, have at your own home, only. Boycott the ’09 concert. No money. No money.

Long-time readers of this page can celebrate! The debate is over. Need no longer rage whether it is more difficult for teachers, who must attain advanced degrees, certifications and take work home (but have summer generally free); or factory workers, who do physically demanding work all day (but have evenings and weekends generally free). The answer? You have the most cushy free time to sit around and pontificate and solve the problems of the world as the vice president of a plastics company. Of course, if you have the same last name as the name of the company and you are only vice president, you were likely given the job by family. So, what would you really know?

I want to complain about living in the City of Tonawanda. I own a home in the city that does not have a driveway, nor do I have room on my property to put in a driveway, and the City of Tonawanda does not allow overnight parking from 4 a.m. to 6 a.m. in the summer and 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. in the winter. I find this ridiculous. I pay my city taxes, just like everybody else, and I’m not allowed to park my vehicle on the street overnight or I will get a ticket. I think the city has old ideas and needs to reevaluate its thoughts on this. They’re telling us to park our vehicles over at the DPW and I would like to let the city to know that’s ridiculous.

•••

I’d like to submit my nomination for North Tonawanda’s “national anthem”: “In Heaven there is no beer. That’s why we drink it here. And when we’re gone from here, our friends will be drinking all our beer.”
