SOUND OFF: Published October 4

The Tonawanda News

I think we need a place in North Tonawanda for the kids to hang out, the middle and high school kids. There is an empty building in Mid-City Plaza, the Sears store. They should build that as a recreation center to keep the kids off the streets. They could do one night for middle school and the next night for high school.

It’s obvious the police are not enforcing the cell-phone driving law too well. There are several people talking on cell phones, in the process not paying attention to the driving rules such as using turn signals, and going through red lights because they’re too busy carrying on a conversation. I observed a young lady today traveling at a rather high rate of speed right through a red light while she was talking on her cell phone. If she had hit a pedestrian or slammed into another car, we’re all supposed to feel sorry for her.

Congrats to the Tonawanda Warrior football program on its great start. Thank goodness we have coaches who run things that our kids can actually execute and who don’t listen to the fools in the stands who want to be entertained and see an offense that they see on Sundays. Remember it’s about the kids and what they can really do, not what you would like to see. Also, keep up the great character development program that you have with Coach Masters. Its great to see that you guys care about the whole athlete and not just about winning games.

Great job on the new dock on the NT wall. It’s nice to see boats tied up and bringing in dock fees and business to the restaurants. I can’t help but notice that since the dock opened in July that the same boat has been on the end of the dock, by the restaurant. It has the restaurant’s name on it. There is supposed to be a five-day limit. Is he paying for this spot? I hope the taxpayers aren’t providing a free dock for this boat.

Last Wednesday while (I was) taking my granddaughter for a walk down Meadow Drive, two workers were cutting grass at the high school. Both stopped their mowers after moving them well away from the sidewalk and waited until we passed before they turned them on again. I would like to say thank you to both of them for being so considerate.

I would like to know since when somebody working in the Tonawanda School District has to pay $2.50 for a small cup of water, which is distilled. It seems to me this is against the law.

What kind of intelligence has the people of NT got? They can get a pizza for $8 at Wal-Mart, and all the pizza houses around the city are going to close? Come on! Is that why all the pizza places are closed everywhere? Because of a Wal-Mart?

Your article about the city getting involved with the Scarfone Apartments and Norton Courts: If it was the taxpayer that was behind in their water bill, it would have been shut off. What’s going on here? This is bull. This is not fair to the taxpayers. We know darn well that the taxpayers are going to get stuck with the bill. Something has to be done with the city council and how things are done in this town.
