SOUND OFF: Published October 7

The Tonawanda News

I shoot competition pistols. In traveling the pistol has to be in a locked box. Now, I classify cell phones as a trigger for a killing machine, the auto. The cell phone should be placed in a locked box, and in the trunk if possible. This would keep everybody safe.

St. Francis of Assisi Elementary School is ranked the top school in the Tonawandas. Let’s give the teachers a raise. They sure deserve it.

•••

About the dogs barking in the Wurlitzer Park area: These people should have some compassion for a dog that is left out all day. If they had a heart, they would report this situation. It’s the owner’s responsibility, not the dog’s.

•••

For all those who are writing in about Wal-Mart and what a great place it is to work: I used to work there and it’s anything but a nice place to work. They will lie to you and say you will get a full-time job. All they want to do is hire as many part-time people as they possibly can. As for the benefits and the higher pay, very few people get those benefits and higher pay.

•••

I question your editorial about the boathouse demolition. In one paragraph you state that private structures on public land, prime real estate, should never have been built. Further down, you’re saying why a commercial or permanent residential use for the land isn’t being considered “mystifies us.” It’s residential they were using it for, even though it was on public land. There could have been some kind of thing made for them to use that. Why do you say you want residential use on public land anyway? You’re contradicting yourselves.

•••

About the person who says pit bulls are dangerous: You sound more angry and dangerous than any pit bull I’ve ever met. I think the owners of pit bulls are the most dangerous of all creatures, especially the ones that train them to be nasty.

•••

I urge people to vote with their minds, not by popularity, which will be hard to do with the people who are running. Remember what the American Revolution was about. Remember the Boston Tea Party. Look at the destruction politicians have done with the destruction of Wall Street, with the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer.

•••

About the county paying for Matt’s trial: I don’t think that’s right for the taxpayers of Niagara County to pay for his lawyers. If he owns property, it should be seized and sold. I don’t care if he has a dog. Take it and sell it. Sell the clothes off his back. Besides that, we have to support him for the rest of his life while he’s in jail. He should get the electric chair, not life in prison. He killed somebody. The killers in jail live better than half the poor people in this country.

•••

Some concerns about the town wanting to bond for software and dump trucks. Maybe the government ought to think about not giving superintendents of schools $200,000-a-year pensions and cosmetic surgery for all the people who work in government. Maybe cut some wages instead of wage and benefit increases. They got rid of boat houses that paid taxes and leases. (They’re) renting space for the adult center, when they only paid $1,000 a year and now they want to pay $2,000 a month. Something’s wrong with our government.
