Thank you, Mr. Pilozzi and Mr. Davis, for having the courage to love the City of Tonawanda. This is a rich community in things that matter most, namely quality-of-life components that materially more affluent communities would love to have. One specific issue, and to express one person’s opinion (mine), please do not construct new homes where Little League park and Vets Park is; please use other creative applications for this very special area. (For example, restore Little League Park to attract state-wide or nationwide Little League competition ... upgrade Vets to attract vets). Please seek other creative ways to generate pursued revenue goals for the city. Ultimately it is God who we trust and we will pray for whoever is called to serve our city as mayor.
It doesn’t take a genius to realize that every time the state raises up taxes for regular stores, and for regular brand cigarettes that you have to buy at 7-11, Convenient, or whatever, the cost goes up. But then, the reservation just raises up the price of their cigarettes, and it just puts more profit in their pockets. Government, wake up! All you’re doing is making the Indians richer. So, I feel that they should be paying taxes on cigarettes.
I work the North Tonawanda football games. I’ve been working the games for about 14 years. I’m the down marker guy, so I work on the visitor’s sideline. I just want to comment about the T-NT game. I know it was a pretty rough score, but I just wanted to say that the past couple years when NT plays their games, they usually win, and they usually rough up the opponents. On the sidelines, usually the coaches are swearing, the coaches are getting up, the players are swearing, and the players are being very disrespectful. But, during the T-NT game, I was really impressed. The Tonawanda kids never gave up, everyone was very respectful, nobody was swearing, and the coaches never gave up. Again, I know the score was really bad, but I give Tonawanda a lot of credit, as they never gave up, and they were always respectful from the beginning to the very end.
I agree with the comment in the Sound Off about discontinuing the Sunday edition of the Tonawanda News. I would much rather have a Monday paper than get two big Sunday papers. The Tonawanda News on Sunday is pretty much a rehash of the whole week, and it’s not really relevant. A Monday paper would be much better. That’s what their original schedule was. They never had a Sunday paper; they had Monday through Saturday, and that’s what I think the News should go back to. I would rather have a Monday paper.
Our state elected officials want to hear from the public about what to cut from the budget. This is a cop-out so they won’t get blamed if people are unhappy. They chose to run, let them make the tough decisions. Remember what Harry Truman said: “If you can’t stand the heat, get out of the oven.”
