Sheriff’s deputies bust woman in stolen car
A Lockport woman faces numerous charges including attempted robbery after a sheriff’s patrol spotted her driving a stolen vehicle Monday in Wheatfield.
Katherine A. Figueroa, 21, 87 Corinthia St., was charged Tuesday with third-degree attempted robbery, second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation and theft of services, stemming from two criminal complaints against her in the city.
In addition, the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office charged Figueroa with criminal possession of stolen property, unauthorized use of a vehicle and aggravated unlicensed operation, after a deputy initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle Figureoa was driving Monday afternoon on Niagara Falls Boulevard. The vehicle matched the description of one reported stolen from a Norwood Drive, Lockport, residence, earlier in the day, according to police reports.
A 7 Eleven cashier reported to police that Figueroa tried robbing the store at 95 S. Transit St., Lockport, shortly before 7 a.m. Monday. The cashier said a woman twice demanded he turn over all of the money in his cash register, then when the cashier refused and started to call police, she left the store and drove away in a white Ford Expedition.
The cashier got the license plate number on the vehicle, and later identified Figueroa from a photo array. Police reports indicate the vehicle belongs to a neighbor of Figueroa’s relative. Figueroa’s driver’s license is revoked due to three suspensions related to alcohol and drugs, police said.
Figueroa was arraigned on the charges related to driving the stolen vehicle late Monday in Wheatfield Town Court and was jailed in lieu of $2,000 bail. Figueroa arraigned on the charges relating to the attempted robbery Tuesday in City Court.
Figueroa was charged with theft of services on a complaint by Timkey Limo, which said Figueroa did not pay the $8 fare for a cab ride in the city on March 7, Lockport police said.
