Police Blotter for Friday, Dec. 23

Change taken in diner break-in

Niagara County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a diner on the 2200 block of Niagara Falls Boulevard after a motion alarm was activated about 12:45 a.m. Thursday.

Upon arrival, deputies said the owner’s son approached them and said he saw a man exit the building through a broken window and run off through some nearby yards.

Deputies checked the business and found that a cash register had been disturbed. The owner said no cash was in the register but $42 in quarters, dimes and nickels were gone.

Deputies said the suspect had broken a second-floor window to get inside a vestibule. Once inside the vestibule, the suspect attempted to break the door window but was unsuccessful, though the window was cracked. There was mud smeared on the window indicating that he may have tried to kick it to gain entry.

The owner said a flat screen TV attached to a wall appeared to have been disturbed but not damaged. Nothing else appeared to be missing or damaged.

Deputies found a large 4-by-4 piece of wood that the suspect may have used to break the windows.
