SOUND OFF: Published April 3

It's absolutely a shame at the choices we have for president of this country. Anyone else agree?

Why haven't I seen pictures in the Tonawanda News of the boathouses being demolished? How long is NT going to put up with this Marine-Ghetto and the squatters who have inflicted themselves on our waterfront. I say if you’re not going to tear them down, how about removing the doors and just letting people wander through them. They are now public property. Maybe I'll go down there and grab a stove or fridge that the squatters left behind.

“We do not own the sidewalks.” That is a poor excuse. It is an opinion of the sheer lazy man. We have an obligation. I am sorry that you are over 60 and cannot even manage your driveway by yourself. I have severe RA in my hands and knees and can barely walk up a short flight of stairs to my house at times and can manage just fine. But if you have such trouble, why don't you have your grandchildren, children or even some neighborhood children help you? Because let me tell you, if you don’t get it through your head that if someone falls on the unshoveled sidewalk in front of your house, you are the one who will be sued and not the city.

Talk about government waste! After the federal government spent $42 million to tell us about the “economic stimulus” checks that will be mailed to all tax-filers, I received a letter from Assemblyman Robin Schimminger and one from Rep. Tom Reynolds telling me the same thing. After all of the announcements on radio, TV, and the newspapers this seems to be overkill. Truly a further waste of tax dollars by government that is not doing anything anyway. I guess it is to make us think they are representing us. Get to work guys!

Ryan Miller is not the worst goalie ever but he is far from being an elite goaltender. Just look at his stats. His goals against and save percentage have been average for his whole career. He has always been about 15th-20th in these two stats. Miller is not the worst, but he is no better than average.

There are laws to protect gay people. They are called hate crime laws. Look it up. Get a clue.

You want to trim the fat in the City of Tonawanda? Start with the yearly stipend to each volunteer fire company. With a very few exceptions, there are really no active volunteers anymore. Save the money and hire a couple more paid firefighters. Close down the private barrooms, let them meet up at Firemans park. I hear there is a nice clubroom there now. Problem solved, what do you think Mr. Mayor?

I am assuming the victim is the 12-year-old girl when you are talking about the NT police taking the victim to Children’s. I don't think it has anything to do with lack of confidence with DeGraff but the fact that some of the Kaleida facilities do not handle such cases. Unless the victim is having a life-or-death situation they will transport them to the hospital that can handle such a tragedy. The victim may have evidence on her that needs to be handled properly.

As a citizen of the City of Tonawanda, I feel we have a right to know whether the 18-year-old arrested for grand larceny is the same individual who has broke into a number of city residences over the last few months. How come there are no stories in the News about this? Seems like it’s just as, if not more important than the graffiti bandits. Somebody follow up on this and tell us more, we have a right to know!

I was so mad at the NT Council this week. They told my son to be there to observe the meeting and then refused to let him in. He stood outside the locked doors for 30 minutes before I came back to pick him up. This did turn out to be a good lesson for him. Now he knows first hand how screwed up our city government is.

If I were a resident of North Tonawanda, I would be outraged at the ex-mayor, current mayor and the council for the mess they created at the Marina on River Road. They took a beautifully maintained little yacht club that provided the city with a steady income and turned it into a dilapidated, rundown eyesore that has drained the city of income. In fact, it will cost thousands of dollars to just get it to pass inspection. All in the name of greed and politics, selling it to an out of town buyer, being duly warned that riverfront property cannot be sold without state approval. Unbelievable!
