SOUND OFF: Published April 5

In the paper today I read an article about how the NT government wants to tear down the house that little girl was raped in. I just want to make sure I comprehended this correctly. You mean to tell me that if an atrocious crime is committed in one of your many abandoned houses, then you'll tear it down finally? Really? Well then, there you go people. In order to get rid of some of these junk houses, in particular that one on Riverview Avenue, all you have to do is commit a crime! Genius!

This is in response to the several remarks against fast food employees. Well, I just so happen to be one. Surprise surprise, I can indeed read. I believe one statement was that people work in fast food restaurants because they're too lazy to go to college. Well, if you look closely, most of the employees are either in high school or in college. Fast food restaurants provide schedule flexibility so they can attend college and better themselves. Also, if you go to a certain fast food restaurant, they happen to currently be selling spring coupon books. That money supports a college scholarship fund which means they help out with the cost of school books each semester for students working with at least a C-average. Now that is not the only reason to gain employment in fast food. Take myself for example. My husband happens to be the sole provider for the family, and sure, I could be a stay-at-home mother, but with my age in mind, that's cutting me off from the world. I like being out in public, so I continued to work there, using the paychecks for extra spending money. But go ahead folks, keep thinking that we're all lazy, mentally challenged people who deserve minimum wage. With most of the people that come through the drive through sitting 10 feet from the window expecting me to magically leap out the window to give you your 5,000-calorie meal with a diet (haha) coke, get real. Oh and there's the classic, the person who comes through the drive through at 10 p.m. with a $40 order and expects it all made in under two minutes. Oh and in case you've never seen the movie "Waiting" keep in mind — never mess with the people who handle your food.

To the person that posted on the 22nd, why should you get any more rights than me or anyone else because you’re gay? You have and get the same rights as me or anyone else. I'm fat. I don’t get more or want more rights than a thin person. Equal treatment.

Congratulations NT. You have finally proven your lack of intelligence to me. I lived in that town off and on for over 10 years, and nothing changes. You all want change, but want to sacrifice nothing to gain it. I'm a firm supporter of Wal-Mart in NT. Why? Who am I, an outsider, to have an opinion on this? I am the one who reads the paper every other day and read complaints about the roads, the hideous buildings and every other thing that makes that town look like the dump that it is. I can almost guarantee that it is the same people complaining about the roads that are against Wal-Mart too. Why people? Read this slowly and maybe it will sink in and make sense. If Wal-Mart comes to NT, they will have to pay more on property taxes because of the amount of land they will occupy. More tax dollars coming in equals the road work you so desperately seek. And if it doesn't happen that way, the Mr. Soos, you have a lot of explaining to do to the people of North Tonawanda.

It's not just about cutting the grass and shoveling the snow. How hard is it to remove the trash tote within 24 hours after the trash truck empties it? Please remove it from the curb.

A little girl on Gilmore was very brave and we all commended her for her quick thinking. It must have been terribly scary for her. Good luck!

What are they going to do with the abandoned house at 244 Payne Ave.? They should knock it down or do something with it. It has been empty for more than a year.

•••

If you are that bad off, you should be in a nursing home. Then you won’t have to worry about cutting the grass or shoveling the sidewalks.

Congratulation North Tonawanda! Winner for the third year in a row of the worst roads in Western New York.
