SOUND OFF: Published April 11

What a stupid idea and what a political ploy! Mayor Soos supposedly was told to get into to the present century with his ideas. He came up with a plan to modernize the market, and supposedly appoint a different market clerk. Introducing wine to the market means getting a license, policing for proof, and many more headaches that the city does not need. We have a great cheese supplier already. The plan to move the market to Manhattan Street (where we do not have a place to park if the lot is filled with vendors) or to Robin Steel. The latter property has too much value to limit its use to three mornings a week. Be a little more picky about who can sell at the present location. Farmers first, harvesters second and junk sales last. And free up more parking by prohibiting big trucks from parking in the existing places. Don’t change the market, don’t change the market place. Please don’t fix what isn’t broken.

I am definitely upset over the poor 12-year-old girl who was assaulted waiting for the school bus. The sex offenders need to be away from our children. We need to be aware of who they are and where they live. Please, Tonawanda News, publish a list of sex offenders in North Tonawanda. We need to see their pictures and know where they live for our poor children to be safe in our town. Mr. B, it’s time for you to take control of our schools. You’re letting everybody else run the schools except you. Get out there and try to protect our children.

I just wanted to thank global warming for cleaning my sidewalks.

I just received my mail today from General Motors Retirees and their families. The last article from you on the healthcare that we were supposed to be guaranteed from the UAW. It looks like we might not have it January 1, 2011. It looks like they are still trying to take away everything they promised. You work for a company for 30 years or more, do what they ask, work in bad conditions, breathe who knows what and don’t know what it will do to you in the future--they are trying to bail out on us like they did every time we had a contract since 1970. Beware, our country is in for it if we lose our healthcare.

I just read in the paper that somebody said Ryan Miller is the worst goalie in NT. If I read the paper right the other day, I believe this young man just lost his cousin to death from cancer. I think somebody should take it easy on the poor guy, he’s a good goalie.

I was just wondering in North Tonawanda, did the council ever get an idea that the mayor liked? Or did the mayor ever get an idea that the council liked? It seems that nobody ever gets together.

Mayor Soos: Please don’t ruin our city market. It’s the one thing in our city that is perfect. You can’t turn it into one big flea market or garage sale. It doesn’t need outside retailers. It doesn’t need anything other than the farmers and the great produce they bring. Please leave it alone.

Please, neighbors in North Tonawanda, now that snow is gone, please clean up after your dogs.

I have no idea what you people are talking about: Recession, depression, downturn. You’ve got to be kidding me. I’m making more money than I ever had. And why is that? I work, and don’t sit on my lazy butt.
