SOUND OFF: Published April 12

Don’t forget to turn your heat down and drive your car less so you can save on energy. That way, President Bush can use more fuel he is using on his world tour. He is one president who says “do what I say, not as I do.” I wonder how many houses could be heated with the fuel he is using to see the world as a lame duck president on our backs.

I look forward to the nice weather coming our way. I don’t look forward to our inconsiderate neighbors. It is no nice when they are locked indoors for most of the winter. You know the ones, that can’t control their kids who yell and scream, so you can’t enjoy the quiet summer nights. The ones who have nightly bonfires that propel sparks so bad you can’t open a garage door or window. They basically hate to see people enjoying a serene, quiet summer evening. I say to you people, move out to the country and annoy the wildlife. You obviously have no clue how many of your neighbors would be pleased to see you go. They would have a block party (one night only).

I am wondering why the youth center was closed for almost two weeks recently. I was told that some kids were allowed to use the youth center and did some damage to an alarm system. I was wondering if taxpayer dollars were going to be used to pay for these damage, and if kids are allowed to use the youth center when there are no programs? My kids could not use the youth center for two weeks because of this.

I live in North Tonawanda and I just want to make a statement that if the Department of Public Works gets any worse we shouldn’t even have a Department of Public Works. The roads are horrible and the potholes are getting bigger and bigger everyday. What are the people doing at the Department of Public Works? Dropping off and having coffee somewhere instead of fixing the roads? It is disgusting to see the roads the way they are even because of the winter weather. The potholes are getting bigger and bigger. I think that the department belongs right in the potholes.

I gotta tell you, you got me good. You got my wife great and got people at our lodge totally on fire. It was a fantastic, now that we calmed down, front page today. I should have got it as soon as I saw the Jim Kelly incident. This is what the world needs right now, a little bit of humor.

To the person who wrote in saying they hate Sound Off and that is has been about the same stuff for the past year and a half and that they are bored, why do you read it? Also, why do you bother calling in if you hate it?

As a resident of North Tonawanda, I would like the mayor or the head of the Department of Public Works to explain to the people of North Tonawanda why the roads are the worst in Western New York.

•••

I would like to know what North Tonawanda officials plan to do with the abandoned houses in the city, especially seeing that girl was taken to one. There has been an abandoned house unoccupied behind the dog groomers on Payne Avenue for years! Are we going to wait until our conditions get to look like Buffalo like the Genesee Street area? The way North Tonawanda works things don't get done or accomplished for growth, new growth to occur.

•••

To the person complaining about pot holes in NT. I think they are worse in Wheatfield. This is the first time I've seen so many bad roads in the town. When I call Demler's office they just tell me it's been a very bad weather year.

•••

Congratulation North Tonawanda! Winner for the third year in a row of the worst roads in Western New York. No, you’re wrong. Niagara Falls city streets deserve the award for the worst streets in Western New York.
