As a former NT resident that always defends the city to others that may say bad things about it, I have to say that NT has the worst roads in Western New York. This past weekend I was in town and it was like driving on a lunar landscape.

The garbage men in the City of Tonawanda are paid for a full 8 hours when they only work about 4. The reason for this is because they lift so much heavy stuff in the days they work. With the garbage totes they no longer have to lift these heavy items, the totes are picked up by machine. They should put in a full 8 hours now, trash collection could be limited to the first 3 days of the week. Or the garbage men could do other work after trash collection. Maybe picking up trash on the side of the road, or cutting lawns. I'm sick of paying some of the highest taxes in the country while the city wastes away our tax dollars. I'm also sick of driving past public employees sipping coffee on the side of the road. We've all seen the group of 10 guys watching one guy dig a hole on the side of the road.

Maybe the person who can’t stand having neighbors ought to move to the country, seems to me you’re the problem.

Lots of rain, thunder and lightning last Friday night and guess what. In the middle of the storm my power went out for about 45 minutes. Same old same old here in Wurlitzer Park.

To the caller who asked if the DPW was dropping off and drinking coffee .... just go down Oliver Street in the morning. You`ll find city trucks from corner to corner in front of Tammy’s Kitchen. Nice to make their salary and sit in a coffee shop for a couple hours huh? By the way I’m looking for a job like that!

Well, I'll have to say that over the years I have not always agreed with Mayor Larry Soos of North Tonawanda. But I got a call from my brother in Ohio who saw the photo of Canal Fest online and sent it to me. The picture won an award and is going to be featured on a magazine cover next month. The photo is outstanding and the publicity it has gotten is wonderful. Way to hit a home run for NT, Mr. Soos.

A huge tip-o-the hat to Mayor Soos and his staff for submitting the photo of Canal Fest that just won first place in a New York state photo competition. The publicity this photo has earned is worth tens of thousands of dollars for the Twin Cities and Canal Fest. Everyone should be proud!

To all dog owners in the City of Tonawanda: If I see you let your dog do it's duty and not pick it up, I am calling animal control on you. It is a law in Tonawanda that you must pick up after your mutt so that others will not step in their dirt. I'm not a dog hater, but I am certainly sick of stepping in dog dirt-particularly in the Morgan/Young street area.

I say let’s keep Majestic Theater open and put the Wal-Mart supercenter in the old Roblin Steel. Open up a entrance to River Road solve every one’s problems.

I thank Mayor Soos for organizing the Property Task Force. The city needs a group like this to address run down properties. I called the mayor's office to report a skid-row type property on my street, Meadow Drive and the person answering the phone was very polite and took down the information. I would now like the committee to look into the worst looking property in the Tonawandas, the boat houses. Can the mayor's committee get those eyesores torn down?
