SOUND OFF: Published April 25

I attended Mass today and the couple sitting in front of me was complaining and making remarks that the little children were going to be singing during Mass up in the choir. The man actually put his hand up to his ear and yanked his hearing aid out of his ear. I feel very sorry for you. I think you should skip Mass altogether and continue down the road to the casino, because that’s where you spend every other night.

I can’t believe that that kid who broke into the museum in North Tonawanda twice and posed for pictures with a cocky look on his face doesn’t have to pay one cent of that money back. Thousands of dollars! That’s really a slap in the face to those good, generous people who made those contributions. I’ve been unemployed for a long time and I can’t afford to call in a contribution, but after reading the outcome of his case, I’m sure glad I didn’t.

I’m calling about the newsletter from the North Tonawanda City School District I received last week. Across the top of the page in big red letters, “48 Million Capital Project at No Cost to Taxpayers.” Where do you think that money came from? That’s our money. If you look at what they are spending it on, there is barely $10 million of work there and they are claiming it is $48 million. You could build two schools with that kind of money! Talk about a waste of taxpayers’ money, it is so pathetic, the only reason they are taking it is because they can.

I’m calling about the teenage beating that was posted on YouTube. It is disgraceful and very saddening. It is refreshing to see young teens and families coming together and speaking against it. I’m glad these teenagers are going to be charged with their crimes. Let’s also look at the television shows on Fox TV, on WNYB —what about those shows where the first thing that someone wants to do is beat up the other person. That has given influence to all these teen beatings. Let’s look at those TV shows and what our society is watching on TV, and in turn our society mimics what is on TV and in the movies.

I don’t think anyone disagrees with American Axle trying to decrease expenses in order to remain competitive. However, areas other than workers’ wages should be considered. How about suppliers and executives’ bonuses? That alone should be enough to rectify the problem.

Your article in today’s paper about the woman injured in a car crash — the North Police Department is showing favoritism again. They woman was only charged with DWI and refusal to take a breath test. Well, refusal to take a breath test is an automatic felony DWI. What’s up North Tonawanda Police?
