SOUND OFF: Published May 2

The Tonawanda News

Recently, I had family in from the UK. They noticed that so many drivers were talking on their cell phone. I told them it's not legal to do that and they were amazed by the ignorance of so many people ignoring the law. They also mentioned that in the UK, getting caught talking on a cell phone while driving will cost you one-thousand pounds ($2,000) for the first offense, and the same fine and a six-month suspension of your license for the second offense. Hey New York state, let’s adopt this law so I can watch all the ignorant people get their checkbooks out!! Obey the law people. It saves lives.

Hi I was just wondering why everyone is supporting Barack Obama around here. Hillary has done so much for us New Yorkers, and we all owe her our votes. Stop being sexist and vote for the right choice. Ever see the movie “Grumpy Old Men”? That’s McCain's biography. And Obama is all talk. If you are going to hire a roofer, are you going to pick the one that has the most experience or are you going to pick someone who makes you feel good about change without doing anything to back it up?

Finally three great ideas for NT. Tear down Melody Fair, boathouses and build Wal-Mart on the Roblin Steel site. But alas, we are talking about NT, so these great ideas will go by the wayside and NT will just die a slow and agonizing death. Just happy I got out 10 years ago. Signed, Happy in the South.

I applaud the garbage collectors. Never have I realized what a job they do. A lot of people complain in Sound Off about them but really it's not an easy job. I watched a collector try to get through heavy traffic to grab a tote and it's such tedious work. Bring tote to truck, lift tote, put tote back. Hour after hour the same thing. I'm sure their bodies hurt at the end of the day. I think my NT garbage collectors are great! They even blow the horn and wave to my kids!

This week has been the National TV Tune Out Week in which we shut off the TV, Playstation etc. and spend time with friends, family and a good book. Have you tried to turn off the TV even for one day? It's very hard especially for the kids but my family has been trying and I've been enjoying my evenings with them more.

I just seen that the crime cams in Buffalo are up and running. The police commissioner also said that they are working, crime is moving away from areas that have cameras. Where is the crime going to go? All the suburbs are going to have to deal with it.
