SOUND OFF: Published May 10
How come the City of Tonawanda Fire Department doesn't take people to the hospital? My bill from a local ambulance company was too high.

I guess that since politicians do their jobs as though they've been bashed in the head a few hundred times too many, Baby Joe Mesi would fit right in.

People really need to do some research before they call into Sound Off. Chemical Test Refusal is not a felony. Please check www.nysdmv.com for the facts. It’s a $500 civil penalty. No jail time. Revoked license for at least one year, 18 months for commercial drivers.

For the person who stated on April 25th in Sound Off that the NTPD is showing favoritism by not charging a woman who was in an accident and refused to take a breath test with felony DWI, get your facts straight. In New York state, refusing to take a breath test is a traffic infraction. Refusing a chemical test (the breathalyzer) results in the immediate suspension and subsequent revocation of your license. Whether you are charged with a felony DWI or not is based solely on whether or not you have prior DWI convictions. In other words, refusing the breath test is has nothing to do with being charged with felony DWI. And no, I am not a cop.

Believe me, your “autistic child” sign is not going to change the way people drive. Every other sign, speed limit, stop, yield, school zone ,etc. is ignored. What makes you think any other sign is going to be obeyed?
•••
Is anyone else confused as to why the NTPD has yet to gather any other evidence relating to the little girl who was abducted in NT? If they don't solve this one or do something soon, we might as well start advertising to criminals to come live here where you can get away with anything! If I was that incompetent at my job, I'd be fired, but the NTPD doesn't seem to be held accountable for their work. How can that little girl ever feel safe again knowing someone who assaulted her is on the loose?

Is there an ordinance that limits the amounts of boxes and plastic storage totes some one can bundle up around their house? I drive by houses everyday when driving my kids to and from school and see houses with mounds of these things stacked up outside their home. It looks absolutely disgraceful. I only have to see them when I am going to and from the school but I do feel for the neighborhoods of these people who use the outside of their homes as a giant walk-in storage facility. Have respect for those around you. Put your storage in the house or shed.
•••
I also am against talking on a cell phone while driving, but if people could please get their facts straight while calling Sound Off. In the U.K. the fine for talking on a cell phone while driving is only $118, not $2,000.

I know that kids are not allowed to buy or consume alcohol until they are 21, and when they are caught they get put through the court system. You get caught talking on cell phones and you’re put through the court system. Why is it then if children who are not of age to purchase cigarettes can be seen smoking all over the place in public and never even talked to by anyone? Quite frankly I don't care if people smoke, I used to myself. Soon the cig's will be jumping up in price approximately $2 more per pack, and why? Of course the government will tell us they need to raise the cigarette prices because the cost of gas is on the rise.
