SOUND OFF: Published May 17

With the housing market and the current state of the economy, many home owners in NT are now on the verge of losing their homes. The mayor of NT has now decided we need a Property Maintenance Task force to enforce code violations. Homeowners are left to wonder exactly what this code entails until they receive a violation notice to appear in court. There, they are instructed to correct violations or the city will make repairs for them. City charges are at least three times higher than any contractor fees. Barring this remedy, they will foreclose on your property. And the first crack at buying them will be given to law enforcement personnel, teachers and EMTs, at approximately a tenth of the assessed value, of course. Now being in one of these professions, I say kudos Mr. Mayor, this is genius. Now I can buy a few houses in town for about $6,000 or $8,000, turn around and sell them and make a huge profit. Perhaps 50 or 60 grand, that sounds nice. Welcome to the Good Ol’ Boys Club, Mr. Mayor. Hey there’s a house over on Sweeney Street I like, maybe we can find a bunch of code violations there. Wink wink. We’ll talk later.

This is in regards to one of the callers who wonders when New York state is going to stop spending, spending and spending. Unfortunately, I don’t think they are ever going to stop spending. The only way you can get them to stop is to find a way to rise up as a people, impeach the government and start over. That’s what we need to do.

It’s Friday and I’m getting my laughter. Once again, somebody in the Sound Off. Clinton, Obama, McCain. They all did equally the same for New York, except that we have one that rides around in an airplane, spending our tax dollars from New York, trying to get elected to be the President, which she has no qualifications to do whatsoever.

•••

Are you crazy? Vote for Hillary? All the lies she has told us. Where are the thousands of jobs she has promised for us? All she does is float around the country and does not bother about anybody in New York state.

•••

I read the article on the schedule for the concerts coming up in the Friday, May 2 issue. I can tell you at least one date that I am relatively certain of, August 2, The Dark Star Orchestra, which is a Grateful Dead tribute band, will be playing Gateway Park. The reason I know this is that is on their Web site. If you look for their MySpace page, they are listed as playing at 8 p.m. on August 2nd.

People ever heard about the ugliest structure in the Western Hemisphere? Tear down Spaulding Fibre before they take the money away.

I think it would be a good idea to have a no gas day. On that particular day that we designate, no one would buy any gas at any gas station in the outlying areas of Buffalo. Either fill up your gas tank the week or day before, and on that particular day, you have choices. Either to ride a bike, walk, or stay home. And just show those gas station owners that we are not going to pay those prices.

•••

I’m calling to say shame on Frank Budwey to use a Tonawanda News ad for the grocery store as a pulpit to criticize the plan for the Wal-Mart store in NT. He should leave his comments to citizen meetings and the City Hall.

•••

Who says the cost of smokes are going up because the price of gas is going up? That makes a ton of sense. I think the reason the cost of cigarettes is going up because of the temperature of Lake Erie.

•••

Is there a beekeeper on Grand Island or close by that would remove bees from the yard? We do not want to have them destroyed.

•••

It's sad that those running for the North Tonawanda Board of Education are those who want to see the days of the old superintendent back. What a shame. Finally this school district is going somewhere and all of the former cronies come out to run like it is a witch hunt to get the only one who is holding everyone accountable out of a job. I, for one, like the job the new superintendent is doing.
