SOUND OFF: Published July 16

The Tonawanda News

I’m calling and responding regarding the Tonawanda Towers in the City of Tonawanda. Yes, it is true the new owners did some new things to the apartments. The kitchens have different cupboards and there is an advanced fire alarm system. Unfortunately the point that nobody’s getting is the main function is to be disabled and handicapped-friendly. My point was it’s not. The doors don’t stay open long enough so people with wheelchairs and scooters can get through. If you’re able-bodied there’s no problem, but the front and back doors were not working properly. Same thing with the elevators. The point isn’t how pretty the building is. The main point is is the building easy for people who are disabled? The answer is no it’s not. That’s more important that how something looks.

Hey Joe Genco, wake up buddy. This isn’t Budweys versus Wal-Mart. This is NT businesses versus Wal-Mart. Can you please explain the flier for one-stop shopping? Do you know what that means? It means they want everyone to shop there and nowhere else. Wake up, NT.

I’m a senior and moved back to North Tonawanda three years ago. The changes I noticed: No shopping to buy clothes, yarn or underway. I shop at Budweys, Tops, Aldi. I have a choice. I’m not a mall shopper. We need a department store. Wal-Mart should help us shop in NT. I’m sure the other stores will have no problem. Some people will stay with their favorite store. It’s time for a department store to come to North Tonawanda. With the price of gas let’s shop in NT. If you don’t like Wal-Mart, when it opens don’t go.

This is for all you whiners out there who live on Wurlitzer Drive. The Sound Off in Saturday’s paper was the last straw for me. You said you have young families raising children on your street. There are young families with children all over NT. What in the world makes Wurlitzer Drive a holier-than-thou street? Does that mean all the other streets don’t have the traffic you claim poor Wurlitzer Drive might have? You need to get out of your bubble over there and take a look at all of the other streets in our great city that also have traffic.

I read Joe Genco’s article about Budweys and Wal-Mart in Sunday’s paper. I agree with most of it. I have always shopped at Budweys. I would never buy my groceries at Wal-Mart and I’m sure most of his customers would continue to be loyal. However, we need Wal-Mart not only for the taxes and the jobs it would provide. But there hasn’t been a place to shop in North Tonawanda since Ames closed. You cannot buy a ball of yarn. You cannot buy a dish pan. There is no place close by to shop. Why can’t they build a regular Wal-Mart with no groceries and everybody would be happy.

I’m calling about the Botanical Gardens boat dock. I was there over the weekend and you cannot even walk on it because of all the duck and geese feces. I think it should be cleaned up. It is totally ridiculous.
