I just have a thought about this whole Wal-Mart business. I hope it gets built pretty dog gone quick so we can do our shopping there that we can’t do in North Tonawanda now. A question for Mr. Budwey. When his store went up it was almost like a supermarket. Did he study how many mom-and-pop corner stores that he put out of business when he put up his supermarket? I think there’s something of a comparison here. Some people are going to have to suffer when something good happens for the general public. I honestly believe Budwey’s store will survive Wal-Mart. It’s a different trade that handles there and I’m one that goes there. I don’t think what he’s doing should change anyone’s opinion on something that will benefit most of the people in North Tonawanda.

I would like to know when the higher-ups in the city of North Tonawanda are going to do something at the end of Marcia Drive. We have a big hole at the end of the street that in the summer is a lake and in the winter it’s an ice skating pond. We’ve tried, and tried, and tried to get it fixed to no avail. The least they could do is level off the road so that we don’t have the big swamp there in the summer time. The water stinks. They could maybe cut the road so that the water flows down in the receiver, instead of all of our yards and ruining our yards. Let’s see what kind of result we’ll get. Probably nothing as usual.

To the Catholics who are having a hard time adjusting to the closures. Each church is no more than a franchise. The only difference between McDonald’s or Burger King is that the church is selling salvation instead of hamburgers. $30,000 for a secretary is cheap. If you are willing to do the job for less, more power to you. I’d rather see the $30,000 stay in the community than go to Rome, where 50 percent of all your donations go.
