SOUND OFF: Published Sept. 22

The Tonawanda News

Shame on the Tonawanda News, when you take some wonderful news that the American Legion Band won the national championship title for the 16th time and put it on the third page of your newspaper, right over an ice cream ad. You should be ashamed of yourselves. I have talked to so many people about this and they are equally upset. Now, let’s see if you have enough guts to print this.

•••

One reason why people don’t understand why President Obama won’t go for tort reform: It was reported that he had received more than $91 million from the legal profession in his election bid.

•••

Now that the North Tonawanda teachers are picketing again, are we going to have a repeat performance of last year, showing up late to school and leaving early?

•••

Crazy Jakes co-owner Mike Parker said on June 29, 2009, as the rising star they’re looking forward to Crazy Jakes’ first summer. I’m looking forward to their second summer; maybe we will get grenades going off.

•••

So the “working mom”’ who got that $200 for school supplies wants to know where to buy clothes inexpensively? It’s called Goodwill, Disabled American Veterans, Salvation Army ... shall I go on? We donate and, I’m telling you, we give some damn good stuff! So next time, don’t shop at Macy’s.

•••

Another day and another round of stupid Sound Offs. Today a long rant about people gathering for a charity walk and being rude. Maybe they were but it’s Sound Off, so maybe they weren’t. The next rant was about how lousy a treasurer and clerk Rob Ortt was and that he’s not fit to do those jobs, let alone being mayor. Again, maybe yes, but likely no. When you see it in Sound Off it’s usually a load of crap.

•••

I remember an article on the electrical inspector suggested and hired by the council. I want to make a comment on the bad choice made by the chief inspector Capozzi. I had some electrical work done on my house a while ago. When I got my first bill and spoke to the electrician, he was very kind and explained everything on my bill right to the permit and inspector fees. Recently I had work done and he explained the new procedure. A new inspector costs $30 more than the previous inspector. Aren’t we paying enough fees without doing this? Did anyone look at his fees before they made the decision to hire him?

•••

I just left Tim Hortons on Erie Avenue and there are eight public works employees there from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Now it’s 2 p.m. and they’ve been sitting there for more than an hour. Apparently there’s not enough work for them to be done in the city. Maybe we’re overstaffed. Perhaps it’s time to lay off some employees. It’s disgusting. They just sat there, loitering, with the trucks sitting on Erie Avenue, just waiting for 3 o’clock so they can go back and punch in.

•••

I see where Kenmore East has new cameras. Guess they realize how well cameras work after the principal got caught stealing.
