The Tonawanda News

I just came from an estate sale being run by a so-called professional. How very sad when these people who are supposed to be running a sale for the benefit of the family puts things aside for their friends and sells to them at a very small fraction of what they would sell to someone else. The real losers are the ones who put their trust in the one running the sale. This was not someone new to the business that didn't know any better. The person has been around for a very long time. They are supposed to be working for the benefit of the ones who hire them but so often it’s just a way for their friends to get a steal. Families should be wary of so-called estate experts. There are many professional people who run estate sales but there are also many rip-off artists. Families should be careful of who they hire to sell their family treasures.

I live on Schenck St. and my mom lives on Miller. Both streets were paved last month and I want to thank the Mayor and the DPW for a great job. We love our new roads.

•••

I just want to say that Oliver Street is looking so much better. I know the Mayor had a crew clean up much of the area last month but it looks like all of the neighbors and homeowners are keeping things in order. It makes our city look great.

•••

The NT Common Council is just awful. They looked at the mayor's budget for a month. Made two little changes and then voted against their own changes? I thought I was in the Twilight Zone when I heard about that. Kevin Brick, Nancy Donovan, Dennis Pasiak, Brett Sommers and Cathy Schwandt are the names. Vote every one of them out of office just on the sheer stupidity of this vote.

•••

It was completely wrong for the president to snub our governor in Troy the other day. Whether he likes him or he dislikes him, it was completely unprofessional, but what should do you expect? The governor is trying his best to run a disorganized state, and I think he’s doing a really good job. He still is the governor, and he still deserves the respect of a governor.

•••

I agree they saved the best for last at Gateway. Hit & Run is the best. That’s why they’re in the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame, and why they pack every venue. I think the person who said it was lame must have mistaken it for Canal Fest concerts.

•••

About the boat docking for concerts along the canal. When you pay your fee, it entitles you to that spot on the water. The walkway is a public walkway. As for bringing your own beer, I’m sure the people on the boats don’t walk up and buy a beer from the vendors. They bring their own beer also.

Why not repair the railroad crossing on Walck Road between Zimmerman and Nash? Also, do something about that eyesore of a house on Robinson and Zimmerman, and replace the barrier at the end of Service Drive that was thrown in the weeds almost two years ago.
