SOUNDOFF: Published Oct. 4, 2009

I think they should look into putting up a new stadium on the river. It would be beautiful and everyone would be happy. Gov. Paterson should look into this and so should Mayor Pilozzi. Then maybe the Bills wouldn’t move to Toronto.

I read the column Bob Confer wrote about sex education’s youth movement. I do not know him but I must agree with him being offended that sex ed is being taught in our schools to our kids starting at age 5 including masturbation and homosexuality. Even teaching that these practices are natural and beneficial. Those of us who rely on the Bible know that it’s very clear that these acts are perverted and unnatural.

•••

People are getting very lazy about the proper grammar. For example, instead of saying “people that are going to school,” it is proper to say “people who are going to school.” “That” refers to inanimate objects. “Who” refers to animate objects like people. So it’s “people who,” not “people that.”

•••

Regarding the swine flu at a city of Tonawanda elementary school. Isn’t it true parochial school children go there for remediation? Did those children and their families in fact receive letters from the school district? What about children in the entire school? Once one child is exposed, doesn’t that expose other children?

I guess us senior citizens might as well start digging our own graves. There is no government agency that is going to help us out. They won’t even give us a penny raise in our social security checks next year. I was hoping to get enough for at least one loaf of bread a month. They are sending it by the billions to Iraq and Afghanistan. This is what you call a free country.

•••

A big thank-you to all our police, firemen and EMTs, whether they are volunteer or are paid. Also to our postal workers who give us our mail every day and to our doctors and our nurses who save our lives on a daily basis.

•••

I read on the front page, and I think it’s a great idea, about this group checking into the sidewalks and the lights in the city of Tonawanda. That’s fabulous, it’s exactly what we need. But this woman who is complaining that the curb is too high for her walker is ridiculous. She wants to cross in the middle of the block and go to McDonald’s. She can go to the corner and cross with the light, she doesn’t have to go in the middle of the block. Again, thanks to the group that’s checking the lights.

•••

Someone doesn’t like garage sales? That really takes the cake!

•••

I was watching the news and I saw they fired some teachers in Niagara Falls because they don’t live in the school district. They should check the Tonawanda and North Tonawanda school districts. Some of the employees and teachers don’t live in their districts either. Same with the police and fire departments. If they’re going to do it in one town, they should do it to all of them!
