SOUND OFF: Published Oct. 13

To the woman whose son got arrested for stealing $1 from another boy at Ives Pond, I don’t believe that was the whole story. The police won't arrest him for that, there's more to it. And you said you want more security there? Maybe you should keep him home so you can keep an eye on him.

A lobotomy is cost effective? Sex offenders are a serious problem, I wasn't denying that. I have zero-tolerence for that; however, I think your mentality is going to destroy our country. Guard your children, of course. But at the same time, you can’t just teach them hate and punishment.

On Oct. 10 the News carried a column by Dewayne Wickham about the poor soul in Havana. I am wondering whether you will follow up this column with a story regarding the lives of the family, friends and the co-workers of the New Mexico State Trooper that he gunned down. I would imagine that their lives are haunted by the past. Sympathy for a killer? How about some recognition for the courage and dedication of the people who try to keep us safe and then lose their lives to some radical individuals?

America it is time to wake up! We need health care reform with a public option. If this does not pass because certain Democrats are being paid off by the insurance companies, vote them out! They do not deserve our vote because they are no longer working for us. It is clear that Republicans are only interested in taking the president down at all costs, we don’t need Democrats helping them out! Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, Bill O'Reilly and Rush Limbaugh don’t care if you have insurance. They don’t care if you lose your house because of hospital bills. They don’t care if you or someone you love dies because you have no insurance. They are against health care reform only because it is President Obama that is pushing for it. They have said they want the president to fail. Newsflash! If the president fails, we fail.

This is to all the not-in-my-backyard citizens in NT. You all complain about higher taxes and then try to stop progress in North Tonawanda. Whether it be the senior apartment complexes, the ambulance expansion on Erie Avenue or the new Walmart, do you realize your neighbors are outraged at you? You’re costing all of us savings on our taxes. I would like to see what would happen if the individuals in these groups were forced to pick up the lost tax revenue by increasing taxes on their properties for the money the city loses.
